Our Methodology

This document explains exactly how Whirlwind News selects sources, what "Truth Maxing" means in practice, and how the Truth Council governs the entire process.

Section 1

Our Mission

Whirlwind Media exists to solve a single problem: people cannot trust what they read because they cannot see who verified the sources. Truth Council is the governance infrastructure that makes transparency real. This document defines exactly what that means in practice.

Truth Maxing Defined

Truth Maxing is our commitment to applying the highest achievable standard of source transparency, corroboration, and accountability at every level of our editorial process. It is a standard we pursue, not a claim we have fully achieved.

Section 2

Source Selection — The 5 Criteria

Every outlet in our source registry must meet all five criteria before inclusion:

01 · Established

In continuous operation for a minimum of 10 years, demonstrating sustained editorial commitment.

02 · Staff Reported

Produces original reporting through employed or contracted journalists — not aggregation-only publishing.

03 · Correction Policy

Maintains and publicly displays a corrections policy, demonstrating accountability when errors occur.

04 · Editorial Standards

Publishes a code of ethics or editorial standards document accessible to the public.

05 · Cross-Spectrum Representation

Our registry is deliberately built to include outlets across the political spectrum. No single perspective dominates. Readers see corroboration across ideological lines.

What "Truth Maxing" Means in Practice

Corroborated, not verified. We use the word corroborated deliberately. When Whirlwind Mode surfaces a narrative, it shows how many sources from our registry reported the same story independently. Corroborated means the story appeared across multiple trusted outlets — we do not claim to independently fact-check the underlying events.

Source transparency always. Every story shows its outlet. Every narrative shows its source count. Users can click through to original reporting at any time. We never obscure where information came from.

Active exclusion. We maintain a blocklist of outlets that fail our criteria — including those with documented histories of fabrication, sensationalism, or no public correction policy.

Truth Council Governance

The Truth Council is the human layer that holds the system accountable.

The Fact-Checker Panel

Five independent organizations review source accuracy and bias: FactCheck.org, AP Fact Check, AllSides, Media Bias/Fact Check, and Ground News. Each was selected for methodological transparency — all publish their rating criteria publicly.

Community Accountability Vote

Pro subscribers vote weekly to rank the five fact-checkers. The community holds the fact-checkers accountable — not just the sources. Votes are publicly visible and updated weekly.

Roadmap Commitment

Community votes currently inform our quarterly editorial review. Beginning Q3 2026, vote rankings will directly affect source weighting in the feed — higher-ranked fact-checkers' assessments will carry greater algorithmic weight. The full methodology will be published publicly before implementation.

What We Do Not Claim

Intellectual Honesty

→We do not employ journalists or conduct original reporting

→We do not independently verify the factual accuracy of individual claims

→We do not guarantee that corroborated stories are true — only that multiple trusted outlets reported them

→We do not claim our source list is exhaustive or perfect — it is a governed starting point

→We do not claim political neutrality — we claim cross-spectrum representation, which is different

Section 6

Source Inclusion Requests

The Whirlwind source registry is governed by 5 objective criteria — not editorial preference, political affiliation, or audience size. Any outlet that believes it meets all 5 criteria is welcome to submit a formal inclusion request.

The Process

Inclusion requests are reviewed quarterly by the Whirlwind editorial team. Outlets must submit their own evidence of compliance against each criterion — we do not rely solely on third-party ratings. Decisions are based on the criteria alone and published in our quarterly transparency report.

What to include in your request

Your submission should address each of the 5 criteria directly:

01 · Established — Year founded and evidence of continuous operation
02 · Staff Reported — Documentation of employed or contracted journalists producing original reporting
03 · Correction Policy — Link to your publicly accessible corrections policy
04 · Editorial Standards — Link to your published code of ethics or editorial standards
05 · Spectrum Balance — How your inclusion contributes to cross-spectrum representation in the registry

What happens after submission

Requests received before the 1st of each quarter are reviewed during that quarter's editorial cycle. All applicants receive a written decision. Approved outlets are added to the registry at the next quarterly update. Denied outlets receive the specific criterion they did not meet and are welcome to reapply in a future quarter.

Customer pushback & source disputes

If a customer or partner believes a source in our registry should be removed, the same process applies — submit evidence that the outlet no longer meets one or more of the 5 criteria. We will review it at the next quarterly cycle. Our criteria do the deciding, not individual opinions — including ours.
